Benches cleared in an afternoon contest between the Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox. The Tigers retaliated after Chris Sale threw up and in to slugger Prince Fielder. Tigers hurler Luke Putkonen responded by trying to bean Alexei Ramirez which incited the benches to clear. Ramirez did his best “Tough Guy” impersonation but appeared afraid to go after Putkonen. Manager Jim Leyland got the heave hoe after a heated discussion with the umpires.

Sales threw at Fielder’s head, while Putkonen threw at the butt of Ramirez. He did not try to bean him. That’s the second time this month a pitcher has thrown at the head of a Tiger, while the Tigers responded by throwing at the legs not the head. Moving hitters off the plate has always been a part of baseball, but not throwing at the head. Throwing at the head can end the life or career of a ballplayer.

The two Tigers who had pitchers throw at their heads are Fielder and Caberea. If teams keep throwing at the heads of these 2 stars, I am sure the Tigers will respond accordingly. The Tigers have a lot of big guys, other teams may not want to go against them face to face.
