Baseball is a sport that celebrates its hats. The many different big league baseball caps over the years have ranged from the iconic to the hideous with everything in between. When it comes to the coolest hats in the world, obviously no sport does lids better than Major League Baseball. We now live in a world where the basic baseball lid has been altered and more of a fashion statement. Even with snapbacks, dad hats, and adjustable’s, there is still no comparison to the classic fitted New Era hat. When your sport is the reason the thing exists, you get to hold the title of coolest ball caps in sports forever. With that in mind, here is a look at the five best MLB baseball caps of all-time.

5. Montreal Expos 1969-1991

Although the Expos may not be around anymore, their legacy lives on in the iconic lid the team sported from the 1969-1991 seasons. The elegant tri-color, cursive M on the front was almost as glorious as the red, white and blue color scheme. The Expos became the Washington Nationals, and the Nats have a long way to go to match the epic coolness of their former club’s cap.

4. Los Angeles Dodgers

Lots of teams have blue hats, but no one pulls off the blue ball cap like the Dodgers do. There is just something utterly timeless about the interlocking capital “L” and “A.” The cap is so iconic that the Dodgers rarely wear an alternate cap. One thing people wearing LA Dodgers hats need to be aware of is that wearing one in Brooklyn can still be a source of rancor for old school Brooklyn Dodgers fans who will not be shy about voicing their displeasure.

3, Milwaukee Brewers Alternate Glove Cap

The coolest alternate cap in MLB belongs to the Brewers. At first glance, the fan notices that the logo is a glove catching a baseball. Appropriate for a baseball hat, but it appears to be nothing too amazing. However, there is more than meets the eye. If you look closely, you realize that the glove is formed from a lowercase m and a lower-case b. It is one of the slickest logos in sports, and the Brewers might want to consider making it their full-time cap.

2. Detroit Tigers

When it comes to this classic MLB cap, it is all about the letter “D.” The Old English D is the symbol of the proud city. In fact, the Detroit Free Press has been using the Old English D at the paper since the 1830s. There aren’t many baseball caps that can compete with a historical pedigree like that.

1. New York Yankees

The Yankees classic black cap with the white “NY” is the most popular hat in the world. If you go to any city on the planet, you will find locals wearing Yankees caps. Internationally, the hat is a symbol of the U.S. and the American Dream. Inside the U.S., the hat calls to mind the biggest legends in the history of the game. Great players like Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle and Lou Gehrig wore this iconic cap. A Yankees cap is the epitome of cool.
