Hall of Fame

On the eve before the official Cooperstown inductees will be announced the Baseball Hot Corner writers enshrined three worthy candidates into the BHC Hall of Fame.  The writers unanimously elected Greg Maddux with a remarkable 100% of the ballots cast. Maddux sports a career 355-227 record with an impressive 3.16 earned run average and 1.143 WHIP during his illustrious 23-year career.

Maddux will be inducted with a familiar face as his former Atlanta Braves cohort Tom Glavine also received the honor snatching up 88.8 % of the available votes. Glavine and Maddux formed one of the most lethal mound duos of the 90’s toeing the rubber for the Atlanta Braves. Glavine boasts a career 305-203 record with a tidy 3.54 earned run average and 1.314 career WHIP in 22 major league seasons.

The third and final inductee will bring smiles to the faces of baseball fans in the Windy City as Frank Thomas garnered 81.4% of the possible votes.  Thomas smashed 521 home runs during his 19 year career winning back to back MVP awards in 1993 and 94. The “Big Hurt” will join both Maddux and Glavine as the 2013 inductees into the Baseball Hot Corner Hall of Fame.

Craig Biggio and Mike Piazza experienced heartbreak in the inaugural BHC vote coming up  a percentage point shy of the bestowed honor snagging 74% of the votes. Both worthy candidates will be the odds on favorites to be enshrined next time around.

The results appeared somewhat promising for the steroid era as Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds made significant headway climbing up the vote ladder significantly. Mark McGwire, Rafael Palmeiro and Sammy Sosa didn’t feel the same love from the writers as they are still anchored near the bottom of the vote list.
