Fan Fuel: Greinke signs, Rays trade Shields

It was a weekend ruled by the pitcher. Names like Zack Greinke, James Shields, Wade Davis, Brandon McCarthy and Hyun Jin Ryu will all be modelling new MLB jerseys when the season kicks off at the beginning of April.

The Tampa Bay Rays and the Kansas City Royals completed a blockbuster deal late Sunday evening with the deal shoring up the Royals rotation however it came at the cost of one of the game’s top prospects. The Royals acquired Jamie Shields and Wade Davis from the Rays in exchange for Wil Myers, Jake Odorizzi, Mike Montgomery and Patrick Leonard. Myers who turned 22 Monday was the 2012 Baseball America minor league player of the year after smashing 37 home runs between two minor league levels last season. Coincidentally Jake Odorizzi was a former first round draft pick of the Milwaukee Brewers acquired by the Royals in the Zack Greinke trade in 2010.
