The Toronto Blue Jays appear to once again be on the cusp of shocking the baseball world acquiring the 2012 National League Cy Young winner, 38-year-old R.A. Dickey from the New York Mets. After days of speculation and rumor mongering it is perceived that Dickey, catcher Josh Thole and a minor leaguer will be shipped to the Blue Jays for their top prospect Travis d’Arnaud, blue chip pitcher Noah Syndergaard, newly acquired catcher John Buck and a minor leaguer.

The Blue Jays reportedly have until 2 pm on Tuesday afternoon to successfully negotiate a contract extension with Dickey who is set to become a free agent at season’s end. The Mets were unsuccessful in resigning Dickey which seems to be what spurned the trade. Dickey will earn $5 million in 2013, way below league value. It was rumoured that Dickey was looking for a two-year deal in the neighbourhood of $26 million with the Mets however he could request more from the Jays.
