Jeremy Guthrie Is Cy Young vs The White Sox
Jeremy Guthrie has made a deal with God when he starts against the Chicago White Sox.
He straight up OWNS the White Sox in the last 2 years. Granted I just wrote about how anemic the White Sox offense is, so them getting schooled by any pitcher isn’t news but Guthrie is on a roll against the Pale Hose.
Let’s take a walk down memory lane and remember the good old days when Guthrie was on the Orioles and the Sox knew how to hit.
2010 He faced the Sox twice with a 1-1 record. His total line for those 2 starts were as follows
14.2 IP, 16 hits, 7er, 3walks, 7k’s, 1hr with a 1-1 record
So one good, one bad, no big deal.
Let’s move on to 2011, again he faced the Sox twice and got knocked around both times, here is his combined numbers in 2 starts
14IP, 13 hits, 8er, 2walks, 6k’s, 4hr with a 0-2 record
Then God descended down from heaven and said “Jeremy, I will grant you one wish” Jeremy responded “I want to own the White Sox every time I pitch against them” God answered “It shall be done my son”
In 2012 Jeremy “Cy” Guthrie faced the Sox 4 times, and the first start wasn’t until August 8th, 2012. At the time his record was a very impressive 3-12 with a 6.56 ERA!! He was terrible, but he made that deal with God, and God came through. Over his last 11 starts in 2012 he would face the White Sox 4 times, and in those 4 games his team would go 4-0, Jeremy would only get one of those wins but his team was on fire facing the White Sox when Cy Guthrie hit the hill. Let’s take a look at the cumulative numbers for those 4 starts
29.2IP, 21 hits, 1er, 2 walks, 19k’s, 0hr, 1-0 record
Yeah you read that right, ONE EARNED RUN IN FOUR STARTS FROM A GUY WITH A 6.56 ERA!!! After the first two starts last year I was getting sick to my stomach, the last two almost pushed me off the edge.
The madness hasn’t stopped in 2013, his first start was against the Sox, I should have bet my mortgage on the Royals as Guthrie went
6ip, 5hits, 1er, 1walk, 9k’s, 0hr with the win
Yep 9k’s, you know how many times in 2012 he struck out 9 in a game, that’s right none.
Fast forward to May 4th, he must have been licking his chops waiting for the sucker White Sox to walk into his house! Take a peek at his numbers tonight.
9ip, 4hits, 0er, 1 walk, 3 k’s, and his FIRST CARRER SHUTOUT!!!
What’s left Jeremy? I’m guessing his next start against the Sox will be a no-no. This is ridiculous. He hasn’t lost a game since owning the Sox at the end of 2012.
