Kris Bryant Is On Crash Course To Major Leagues
The Chicago Cubs have a plethora of blue-chip prospects percolating throughout their minor league ranks, however there is none leaving the trail of destruction quite like Kris Bryant. The 22-year old is a one-man wrecking ball destroying opposition pitching almost at will prompting his latest promotion to Triple “A”.
Bryant was selected second overall in the 2013 MLB Amateur baseball draft after perfecting his craft at San Diego University. The Toronto Blue Jays tempted fate selecting Bryant out of high-school in the 18th round of the 2010 draft however the teenager opted for beaches of California.
The third-baseman broke into professional ball last season cruising through three levels in 36 games. Bryant would finish the season in high “A” ball owning a combined .336 batting average, 1.078 OPS stroking 43 hits and smashing 9 homers in 146 plate appearances. His rookie season was just an appetizer and a little foreshadowing of what was to come for the native of Las Vegas.
Bryant opened his sophomore campaign with the Cubs double “A” affiliate Tennessee Smokies of the Southern League. The blue chip prospect took no prisoners since opening day hitting .355 with a staggering 1.160 OPS while belting 22 round trippers in 68 games.
In 104 professional games Bryant has a .348 batting average with 31 home runs forcing the Cubs hand to promote him to Iowa. Not bad for a guy that was only drafted a year ago.
However, the offensive dominance is nothing new for Bryant who batted .488 with 22 home runs and 51 runs batted in as a high-school senior earning national distinction.
In San Diego, Bryant crushed NCAA pitching hitting .365 with 9 home runs as a freshman then following it up with a .366 average and 14 homers in his sophomore campaign.
It is just a matter of time before Bryant once again forces the Cubs hand to promote the 8th ranked prospect by Baseball America.
