Royals and Rays Complete Blockbuster
The Tampa Bay Rays traded from a position of strength dealing pitchers James Shields and Wade Davis to the pitching starved Kansas City Royals in exchange for mega prospect Wil Myers, Jake Odorizzi, Mike Montgomery and Patrick Leonard. The Royals have been frothing for quality pitching for some time but this deal cost them dearly.
Myers is the 28th ranked prospect in all of baseball after hammering 37 long balls between 2 minor league levels last season. Pitcher Jake Odorizzi is a former first round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers and coincidently enough was dealt to the Royals in the Zack Greinke deal in 2010. This deal coming a day after Greinke signed a $147 million dollar contract with the “Evil Empire” Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Rays still look to have a plethora of pitching depth even after the deal in the likes of David Price, Matt Moore, Jeremy Hellickson, Jeff Niemann, Alex Cobb and Chris Archer.
One thing is for sure this off-season just keeps getting more and more exciting and we are only in December. Bring on April already
