What team will move all in on Manny Machado?

The Baltimore Orioles are reportedly shopping All-Star third baseman, Manny Machado, as the slugger is a year removed from testing the free agent waters in 2019. Machado will undoubtedly sign a new deal somewhere north of $200 million so the Orioles appear better served to package the superstar for prospects sooner than later and beginning the rebuild in Baltimore.

Even the best online sportsbook would not be able to predict where Machado will end up once the dust settles but a number of teams are vying for his services. The Chicago White Sox are rumoured to have interest in acquiring Machado which is somewhat unorthodox seeing the Southsiders are in the middle of a full rebuild and there is no guarantee Machado will sign with them at season’s end.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported that the Orioles have received 10 legitimate offers for Machado thus but are said to be preventing any prospective team from negotiating a contract extension prior to a deal. The 25-year old is a game changer on both sides of the field and could potentially shift back to his desired position of shortstop with a new team

In 2017, Machado hit .259/.310/.471 with 33 home runs while accumulating a 3.5 WAR in 156 games last season. Machado earned $11.5 million last season and should earn a raise in his last kick at the arbitration cat before riding off into free agency. I am not confident the Orioles would trade Machado to a division rival let alone the Yankees but could you imagine the Bronx Bombers lineup with the addition of Machado.

The St.Louis Cardinals are said to be pestering the Blue Jays for third baseman Josh Donaldson who is also set to become a free agent after this season. You would have to expect the Cards to be active on the Machado front especially seeing the Jays are rumoured to be balking at moving the former MVP.

The coming weeks should paint a clear picture of the future of Machado and if the Orioles are going to enter the rebuilding phase, in all probability they will but which team will ante up the prospects to get a deal done?
