The Melkman Delivers To Canada
Alex Anthopoulos continued upgrading the Blue Jays roster even as he waits for approval from the Commissioner office regarding his 12 player deal just days ago.
Instead of just sitting around drinking courvoisier and waiting for Bud Selig to call, the man on a mission went out and signed Melky Cabrera to a 2 year $16 million dollar contract. Cabrera is rebounding from a 50 game suspension for performance enhancing drugs.
The Melkman was putting up career numbers on his way to an MVP calibre season when he was suspended batting at a .346 clip with 11 home runs, 60 runs batted in and a .906 OPS. Cabrera will take over left field for the Blue Jays and also brings decent speed with him having swiped 20 bases a year earlier with the Royals.
The month of November 2012 will be the month that forever solidifies the Alex Anthopoulos legacy. The Silent Assassin has acquired or signed Maicer Izturis, Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson, Mark Buehrle, Emilio Bonifacio, John Buck and now Melky Cabrera all before many teams have even started their off-season engines.
It is rumoured the Jays are receiving $8 million from Miami in return as part of their mega deal so it seems the Jays decided to reinvest their surplus of funds in some nice cool refreshing “Melk” to quench the left field void.
I wonder how good ol’ John Farrell is doing these days in Boston with his quote unquote “Dream Job”.
One thing is for sure is that it is going to be a long wait until spring training but at least we will have fresh “melk” all winter.
