Ok, who am I kidding the stove is far from hot so how about we call it the luke warm stove. Unfortunately John Farrell and the Boston Red Sox just punched their ticket to the Fall Classic in dramatic fashion thanks to the clutch hitting of Shane Victorino.

This past week the Toronto Blue Jays announced coaches Dwayne Murphy and Chad Mottola would not be returning for the 2014 season. Murphy was set to retire but the Mottola move came as a surprise for many close to the team. Rumors out of Kansas City have the Royals former hitting coach Kevin Seitzer tabbed as the replacement for Mottola. Manager John Gibbons and Seitzer were coaching comrades in Kansas City so the move would seems to fit. Interesting to note that Seitzer was the hitting coach when Melky Cabrera had his breakout season with the Royals.

The Blue Jays also replaced strength and conditioning co-ordinator Bryan King with that of Chris Joyner. The move is a promotion for Joyner who had been the minor league co-ordinator since 2011.

The Arizona Fall League kicked into full swing with the Blue Jays representing the Salt River Rafters. The Jays have 7 players partaking in fall league action including pitcher Drew Hutchison, Marcus Stroman, John Stilson and Aaron Sanchez.

Here are the stat lines for the Jays representatives albeit a small sample size.

Drew Hutchison: 0-0. 0.00 era, 6.2 ip, 3 hits, 7 so, 0 er

Marcus Stroman: 0-1, 2.25 era, 4 ip, 3 hits, 5 so, 1 er

Aaron Sanchez: 0-1, 3.60 era, 5 ip, 4 hits, 2 so, 2 er

John Stilson: 0-0, 23.14 era, 2.1 ip, 7 hits, 3 so, 6 er

Kenny Wilson: .333 avg, 33 ab, 11 hits, 6 sb

Derrick Chung: .273 avg, 11 ab, 3 hits

Andy Burns: .300, 20 ab, 6 hits, 2 sb

The Rafters are 4-6 in their first 10 games of the fall but are on a modest 2 game winning streak.

Blue Jays outfielder and pending free agent Rajai Davis was on the Fan 590 with Mike Wilner. Davis kept his cards close to his vest when asked about the likelihood of him returning to Toronto. Davis did announce that his wife just gave birth to his daughter so he has been sleep deprived since the conclusion of the season.

It’s not the World Series but what a week it was in Blue Jays news, stay tuned for more Hot Stove pieces during the off-season.
