Dioner Navarro

Dioner Navarro hits 3 homers in a game today.

Before the season started if you had to guess who the first person to hit three homers  Miguel Cabrera wouldn’t have been much of a stretch.  True to form he was the 1st to do it.  Vegas would have had him as the favorite for sure.

However if you had to pick who the SECOND person to do it would be, the only person that would have taken Dioner Navarro would maybe be his mom.  Dioner Navarro himself wouldn’t have picked himself to be the next to do it.

Let’s look at his career stats, surely he has big time power right?  Wrong.  In his now 10th year Navaro has a grand total of 44 homers, with a high of 9 in 2007.  This year before today he had 3 homers and 7 rbi in 55 at bats.

Fittingly today against the crosstown rivals Chicago White Sox Navaro busts out with a hitting line of 3 for 3, 3 homers, 4 runs scored, 6rbi and a walk.  For a guy with 216 career rbi, he just increased his career rbi total by .028 percent in one day.

John Danks the White Sox pitcher fresh off the DL had an ok game vs the Marlins in his first start with 3 er in 6 innings, however his 5/0 K/BB ratio made me happy.  Today was a real bad story for Danks, 4ip, 5 hits, 3 earned, 1 walk and 2 k’s.

Navaro hit his 1st two homers off Danks, Hector Santiago got off easy with only a walk vs Navaro, but he still scored.  For his last at bat Navaro went ahead and launched one off Brian Omogrosso to complete the trifecta.

I was slightly excited when the Sox got to .500 and had 4 against the last place Cubs ahead.  First off Jeff Samardzija throws the game off his life, a complete game 1 hitter in game 1, then Navaro launches 3 in game 2.  Can’t wait to see which Cub has a career day in game 3 tomorrow.

Hey look at that Ryan Zimmerman hit 3 today as well, it’s a hitters day!
