World Baseball Classic All-Classic Team Announced

World Baseball Classic Dominican Republic

The World Baseball Classic has announced the 12 players selected to the “All-Classic Team” with one third of the total voting points awarded coming from the fans.

Forty one percent of the team is comprised of players from the Dominican Republic with five members from the championship team getting the nod.

Three players from the runner up Puerto Rican team were selected along with two from Team Japan and one each from Team Canada and Team USA respectively.

The All-Classic Team is as follows:

1st Base- Edwin Encarnacion– Team Dominican Republic .250 AVG, 7 Hits, 6 RBI,

2nd Base- Robinson Cano– Team Dominican Republic .469 AVG, 15 Hits, 2 HR, 25 Total Bases

3rd Base- David Wright– Team USA .438 AVG, 7 Hits, 1 HR, 10 RBI

Shortstop- Jose Reyes– Team Dominican Republic .314 AVG, 11 Hits, 1 HR, 17 Total Bases

Outfield- Michael Saunders– Team Canada .727 AVG, 8 Hits, 1 HR, 14 Total Bases in 3 games

Outfield- Nelson Cruz– Team Dominican Republic .303 AVG, 10 Hits, 6 RBI, 14 Total Bases

Outfield- Angel Pagan– Team Puerto Rico .364 AVG, 12 Hits, 2 SB, 16 Total Bases

Catcher- Yadier Molina– Team Puerto Rico .259 AVG, 7 Hits, 7 Total Bases

Designated Hitter- Hirokazu Ibata– Team Japan .556 AVG, 10 Hits, 11 Total Bases

Pitcher- Nelson Figueroa– Team Puerto Rico 2-0, 1.80 ERA, 2 Earned Runs Allowed in 10 IP

Pitcher- Kenta Maeda– Team Japan 2-1, 0.60 ERA, 1 Earned Run Allowed in 15 IP

Pitcher- Fernando Rodney– Team Dominican Republic 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 7 Saves, 8 SO in 7.1 IP

The Toronto Blue Jays were the only team represented twice on the All-Classic roster. New York Yankees All-Star second baseman Robinson Cano was the unanimous choice for Most Valuable Player of the Classic.

That wraps up the WBC for another four years, bring on opening day.
